JEAN ISEDORE ALLIS (b. 1776) & ANTJE KLAASEN (b. 1779):
Jean Isedore Allis was born in “Le Thie” in Basse-Normandie (France) in 1776 or 1777. His parents were Pierre Andre Guillaume Allix & Marie Cecile Demaure. He immigrated to Amsterdam, in the Netherlands and started a relationship with a German-born woman, Anke Claßen (also called “Antje Klaasen”).
Jean Isedore & Antje had six children: Jan Theodor (1803), Jacob (1806), Grietje (1810), Andre Louis (1814), Marie Cecile (1817), & Pieter (1825). All of the children were baptised in the Evangelical Lutheran Church.
The family lived on a street called Kromme Elleboogsteeg in Amsterdam, and Jean Isedore worked as a baker’s apprentice. Jean Isedore went on poor relief in 1846 after becoming a widower. He died three years later at the age of 73.
Jean Isedore and Antje had at least 17 grandchildren (although only 13 of them survived to adulthood); and at least 44 great-grandchildren.
Some of Jean Isedore’s descendants still live in the Netherlands. Others immigrated to the UK, Belgium, New Zealand, Canada and the United States.
